Lesson #1

You might be asking yourself what do climbing a mountain and the spiritual life have in common. I’m glad you asked. You could also ask, “What does a mustard seed, a dragnet, or a pearl have to do with the kingdom of God?” The connection is there, we just often fail to see it.

Jesus was a master at drawing spiritual truths from seemingly mundane, real life experiences (i.e., “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men!”) It shouldn’t surprise us that the Creator of the Universe would pattern the physical world to reflect spiritual realities. Just one for now…

As we started out on our journey up Long’s Peak, well before the sun came up, one of the first things that became blaringly obvious was that it is impossible to see where you are going in a forest at the base of the mountain. Trees masked the moon and the stars overhead, and the only way for us to see the path ahead was with the aide of a head lamp or a flashlight…(Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path). In the spiritual journey, without God’s Word to illuminate our path, we would be helplessly and hopelessly lost…

Until next time…God bless.
